About The Black Tux
The Black Tux, a Santa Monica based start up, is an online provider of men’s tuxedo and formalwear rentals–founded to provide the best quality product on the rental market, with an exceptional fit, and at a better price. The Company designs and manufactures its own line of formalwear and provides door-to-door delivery and pick up to customers across the United States.
Fit is a problem that has always plagued the formalwear rental industry and The Black Tux is no exception it. Until 2017, The Black Tux was primarily only available online, so their issues around fit were slightly different than those of Men’s Warehouse and other competitors in the market.
At the time of this project, people who rented from The Black Tux were asked to provide a mix of sizes and measurements online. The data provided by customers was usually slightly off–because most people don’t know how to measure themselves properly–and would result in the delivery of rentals that didn’t quite fit right.
The Home Try-On Program was introduced, as part of a larger initiative, to alleviate issues around first time fit and reduce the amount of exchanges that occurred within the two week window prior to a renter’s event. People could have a suit or tuxedo delivered to them for a free 2-day trial period, which would allow them try it on and address any fit concerns with the Customer Experience team prior to receiving their event rental.
